What does it feel like ending a long line of LN-SDP backed presidents?
- It's difficult to express the almost-immediate weight you feel when you are elected as President. I remain true to the beliefs and platform of the LRP, but now more than ever the Republic deserves a President that will govern in fairness to all. It should be that way in any circumstances after the heat of the campaigns are over .. but especially this time.
When you've been in opposition for a long time and are forever pushing the establishment for change, it's hard to not "be partisan". I don't know whether it's the mantle of the office that is bestowed when you are elected - or what it is. In the blink of an eye I don't see political parties anymore .. I see one Republic that has wounds and I owe it to all citizens to try and work beyond past divisions.
What will the Norton administration do different from the previous ones?
- To start off, I plan on nominating a cabinet that will get to work for Titulia. I have reached out to members from all founded parties that I believe will deliver for the Republic and I'm honoured to have the opportunity to work with my first nominee - Gregory Hock as Attorney General.
I have started to finalise the salaries from the previous Delacruz Administration and I have built a new Officials List - with a difference. The new Officials List separates and clearly identifies the different branches of the government and the other public officials serving in it.
What is your plan for Titulia?
- Once the post-Delacruz era issues are resolved (plus those with starting to move over to a new site), I want to get to work on unfulfilled Change Requests and breathe some new life into the government.
I want to see a genuine trade economy that has ample and fruitful employment opportunities for each and every citizen. I plan to canvas the legislature on a universal housing initiative and I hope to be received by the private real estate market on ways they might be able to assist us with that.
We are lacking in media and site technologies and I have established the Department of Infrastructure to advise on the new site architecture possibilities and to act as a conduit between citizens, industry and government on how to give Titulia the "boom look" it needs to gain interest on the WWW.
What does the LRP-RNC plan on doing different from the LN-SDP?
Look, in their defence .. there were some initiatives from the parties that weren't all that bad. There's a lot that we have in common but progress has been stalled in even being able to negotiate because of past histories and refusals to budge. We have a choice to make - we can play the same old games and Titulia won't move forward .. or we can try a new direction and at least talk to each other to split the difference. I'm in favour of the latter.
The LRP-RNC have been active in a pro-parliament movement. Will you implement a plan or continue the Codex proposal?
- The LRP-RNC Coalition policy is clear - we are in favour of a more democratic, inclusive, parliamentary model. Before we get to that there is the greater legal issue in the process - the "Codex Bill" is law. No Administration can override the will of the legislature (although some in the past have in certain areas - enough said).
The process isn't as easy as what some might think. If we were to go down the alternative path, we would first need to repeal the existing law. Following the fallout it would cause by doing so, it would be close to impossible to get a ratified parliamentary model approved by the legislature.
My view is there are other matters taking precedence in the here and now. It doesn't change my position on a parliamentary model and as a citizen I will continue to speak in favour of it. As President, my duty is to work with the legislature to see their laws come into reality. It's my official position to work with Codex on doing what I can to see his hard work come to life and that's what the people have asked the Government to do in passing that law.
Also, TNC is inviting you to address Titulia via mic on its airspace as the new president. We know the Australian election is this weekend, so we will try to avoid any conflict with that event.
- It would be great to talk again with you guys - hopefully minus the technical difficulties this time around. I'll be out and about in the community this weekend and doing what I can to help the Labor candidates and Prime Minister Gillard win the election. (It will also double as a Titulian election celebration with the terrific guys and girls from the LRP - we'll take some snaps for you and e-mail them in).
