OSLO,NORWAY | US President Barack Obama was unexpectedly awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. Despite not accomplishing much in the US,it seems the Committee chose Obama over Colombian Senator Piedad Córdoba,Afghanistan’s Sima Samar, Chinese dissident Hu Jia, and Prime Minister of Zimbabwe Morgan Tsvangirai. Reaction in the US has been positive to negative,with mostly negative remarks. Even Liberal Commenter Peter Beinart said “the president has done nothing to deserve the peace prize." Today show co-host Matt Lauer even stated live “We’re less than a year into the first term of this president and there are no - I'm not trying to be, you know, rude here - no major foreign policy achievements, to date.” Obama is the 3rd sitting US President (Theodore Roosevelt,Woodrow Wilson) and the 4th total President (Jimmy Carter) that have won the award.
